There are those who don’t know
There can be a silent killer that grows
Do we bury our heads
And hope for the best

Or get tested and treated
Put this virus to rest

This genotype, that genotype
Is all in the same
It is damaging our livers
Whatever it’s name

Stage 1 or stage 4
When would you know
When it’s destruction has enabled
Other organs to flow

When your aches
And your pains
seem to never go

You’re sick and you’re weak
And your mind is unclear
Do I tell you
Or do I not
Will it bring about fear ?
Will you question me ?
How was this to come about ?
Some will know
Some will doubt

Some will never know
How it came about

When I tell you I have this
Please do not fear
You can not catch it
From a sneeze
Or a cough
Or by me being near

Not from a kiss
Or a hug
Or food that we share
It is through contact
Of only blood
That the danger may be there

We were not warned
We did not know
That this virus that runs through us
Would cripple us so

Our faith in a system
That was not in good trust
Have left some alone
In trail of dust

Awareness and marathons
For Parkinsons/Aids and MS
Our fate has been tested
Along with the rest

Get tested and treated
Do it today
There will be obstacles
You will have to face
Throughout the way

With treatment
Not cheap
And how will we pay?
Maybe it will be covered By OHIP some day
How long will it take?
Do we have time?
For the news we await

There is better and new treatment
This new medicine here
Will take and make
This virus go away
It has now been approved
By the F.D.A.

So we sit and we pray
As we wait for the normalcy
Of just everyday
We remember those who have died
And those who still fight
A slow growing killer
That has not been given its due light

It is never too late
For all whom we can educate
Get Tested and treated
Do it today
Hep C is this virus
And it will not go away
Even with treatment
It just may stay…
