About 270 patients at Northtown Medical Clinic in north Edmonton may be at risk of contracting Hepatitis B and C after an investigation by Alberta Health Services confirmed medical devices at the clinic were inadequately sterilized.

AHS issued a public health advisory Monday morning that it completed a joint investigation with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta, finding that there was “inadequate reprocessing and sterilization” of medical  devices at Northtown Medical Clinic, which is located at 140-9450 137 Avenue, putting 270 clinic patients at risk of infection.

AHS says notification letters have already been mailed to people who are potentially at risk.

The risk of infection was deemed low, but AHS said that patients identified through the investigation process have been advised to seek simple blood testing for Hepatitis B and C.
