Officials warn customers of London, Ont., nail salon to get tested for HIV, hepatitis B, C. The Middlesex-London Health Unit issued an alert warning clients of Cali Nails in the White Oaks Mall that they should talk to their doctors. A customer who contracted hepatitis B went to the salon for a manicure and pedicure. The advisory is for anyone who visited the salon between May 4, 2017, and Jan. 5, 2018.
Dynavax Announces HEPLISAV-B™ is Now Available in the United States for the Prevention of Hepatitis B in Adults. HEPLISAV-B is the first and only two-dose vaccine in the U.S. for the prevention of infection caused by all known subtypes of hepatitis B virus in adults age 18 years and older.
Brief: HCV spread from HIV-positive to HIV-negative men who have sex with men. Chronological analysis of contagiousness suggested the transmission of HCV from HIV-positive to HIV-negative patients. The authors of the study recommend that HCV surveillance should not be confined to HIV-positive MSM but should be extended to HIV-negative MSM with similar risk factors. PLoS One. There is no PrEP for HCV except safe sex!
Brief: Outcome of HBV and HCV associated HCC occurring after renal transplantation. Survival after HCC diagnosis is significantly worse in KTR (kidney transplanted) compared to nontransplanted patients with HBV and/or HCV. Prevention is crucial and should be based on viral eradication/suppression before or after transplantation. PLoS One.
